The tragic events of January 8–9, 2026, mark one of the most devastating periods of loss of civilian life in recent history. During this time, large numbers of individuals across Iran participated in widespread public demonstrations expressing aspirations for dignity, freedom, and fundamental human rights.
Reports from human rights observers and international sources indicate that these events were met with severe use of force, resulting in significant loss of life, including among youth, women, and ordinary citizens. The scale of these events has been described by various sources as one of the most serious instances of civilian casualties in contemporary times.
Iranian Eternal Heroes Remembrance (IEHR) is devoted to honoring the memory of all those who have lost their lives in the context of significant human rights-related events. It seeks to preserve their stories and to advance public understanding of the fundamental importance of human rights, peaceful expression, and civic dignity. The remembrance pin stands as a solemn symbol commemorating each individual whose life has been lost in relation to these events, both in recent years and in the periods preceding them, ensuring that their legacy is respectfully preserved and enduringly remembered.
Inspired by the spirit of remembrance reflected in Remembrance Day, IEHR seeks to create a space for reflection, education, and collective memory. Through symbolic initiatives such as the remembrance pin, we aim to encourage awareness, dialogue, and respect for the values of human dignity and freedom.
The design incorporates the historic Lion and Sun emblem alongside the colors of the Iranian flag, representing cultural heritage, identity, and continuity. It stands as a symbol of remembrance and a commitment to ensuring that the lives lost are not forgotten.
Observed annually on January 8–9, this initiative invites individuals and communities to reflect, remember, and engage in meaningful dialogue about human rights, dignity, and the importance of peaceful civic participation.
